Ge-Da-Gi-Binez Youth Centre

Ge-Da-Gi-Binez Youth Centre Fort Frances, Ontario, Canada Ge-Da-Gi-Binez Youth Centre in Fort Frances, Ontario, was constructed to provide a place for troubled youth offenders in Ontarios northwestern communities to rehabilitate. Designed with influence from the Aboriginal culture, the Youth Centre features a 19,000-square-foot 45-mil mechanically attached Elevate UltraPly TPO roof with two 3-inch layers of ISO 95+ insulation. The facility also features a unique, domed metal roof with 4,800 square feet of UNA-CLAD UC-3 RHEINZINK Standing Seam Metal Roof Panels. The dome was custom fabricated on site under a standing heated shroud so work could proceed during ambient temperatures of -40F. A 10-year Canadian Red Shield Warranty covers the roofing systems at this facility. The goal behind the Ge-Da-Gi-Binez Youth Centre was to not only serve the Aboriginal youth of that area, but also to be environmentally conscious. The facility is seeking a Silver ranking on the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Designs (LEED) Green Building Rating System. The Silver LEED status would require the buildings consumption of energy to be 40% less than the typical expectancy of a facility of this size. The TPO roof helped the facility earn LEED points because of its reflective quality, which contributes to a reduction in the buildings cooling requirements.
