Robinson Reservoir Robinson, Texas In 2007, city of Robinson city officials specified 45-mil Elevate EPDM Geomembrane to line their 45-acre reservoir. Originally lined with clay, the resvoir failed to hold water. After considering several products including HDPE and polyproylene, Elevate’s EPDM was selected because of its ease of installation, membrane flexibility, puncture resistance and long-term performance. One challenge was to design a system that addressed wave impact, erosion and potential embankment failure, according to Davison. These were problems with the functioning clay lined reservoir, said Mitch Davison, project engineer, Lockwood, Andrews and Newman. With a large, open body of water the waves can cause significant erosion. Because the water is being held for treatment, the resulting sediment affects the water quality. The EPDM liner not only stands up to the waves, it has had an unexpected, yet welcomed, result in that the city of Robinson has been able to cut costs by reducing chemicals used to treat the water at the plant. Were very pleased with the outcome of this project. It has doubled our water capacity and has eased our operational burdens significantly, said Greg Hobbs, water utilities director for the city of Robinson.
