The Cree: one of the largest First Nations groups in North America, have been living in Canada for over 5000 years. To preserve their memories, the Aanischaaukamikw Cree Cultural Insitute was constructed as the primary safe storage for all traditional artifacts, documents, and media.
Figurr Architects Collective and Douglas Cardinal designed the institute to resemble a traditional sabtuan dwelling. The contoured roof and laminated beams of the building not only mirror traditional structures, but also resemble the ribs of animals that have fed the Cree. Elevate RubberGard™ EPDM and UNA-CLAD™ Metal Systems were used to get the job done.
